I’m increasingly convinced that if Librarians and Library staff carried swords – and knew how to use them – the whole Library profession would be taken a lot more seriously.
Swords send the immediate visual message that the information and services we provide are valuable, and that we are willing to fight to protect your right to access them.
Not that I actually think this will happen. On the Ref Desk today we even decided that I shouldn’t wear my nerf swords with my Halloween costume, because it might make someone want to mess with me. It’s also hard to sit with two swords strapped to your back.
But a girl can dream….
